A bottomless portafilter has many advantages that provide an even better espresso:
- Reveals faults: if the espresso pours unevenly from one side, you should work on your tamping technique, as the angle has likely been incorrect.
- Crema: a bottomless portafilter results in even more crema, since the espresso does not come into contact with anything other than the bottom of the portafilter.
- Flavor: thanks to the crema, the coffee also gains more flavor.
