How to descale your Gaggia espresso machine

Make sure to descale your espresso machine regularly; this ensures a longer lifespan, and keeps your espresso equipment clean so it brews better espresso.

1. First make the mixture of water and descaling solution; the 250 ml can be used 2 or 3 times, depending on how often you descale the espresso machine. If you do it about every 4–5 weeks, 1/3 of the bottle is enough; otherwise use half.
2. In the group head of the espresso machine there is a small filter with a screw in the middle; you need to loosen this so you can remove the filter.
3. Place a cup under the group head. It is important that you do not have the portafilter/portafilter arm in the espresso machine while descaling.
4. Then simply turn on the brew button so that water runs for about 20 seconds, after which you turn it off again.
5. Let the espresso machine stand for 15–20 minutes without touching it.
6. Turn the brew on again for about 20 seconds, turn it off and let it sit for 15–20 minutes.
7. Continue this until the water tank is empty.
8. Thoroughly clean the water tank and fill it with fresh, clean water.
9. Let the entire contents of the water tank run through the machine.
10. Then your espresso machine is ready for use again. We recommend that you discard the first cup you brew after descaling.
