The distributor evens out the coffee in your portafilter before it is tamped. This ensures better extraction while preventing voids and thus makes your espresso shots more consistent.
The distributor is very easy to use, you simply place it in your portafilter and rotate it 2-4 times. It must not be pressed down into the coffee. Once this is done, you are ready to tamp your coffee with a regular tamper and you will get a perfect espresso shot.
